About Santa Cruz Island Airport
Santa Cruz Island Airport is a small private airstrip on Santa Cruz Island, the largest of California's Channel Islands, in Santa Barbara County. The island sits about 44 km (28 mi) southwest of Santa Barbara across the Santa Barbara Channel and forms part of Channel Islands National Park.
The airstrip has a single unpaved runway, roughly 655 m (2,150 ft) long, and only limited ground infrastructure. It was owned by The Nature Conservancy and is no longer registered as an active public facility, so it is best understood as a former airstrip rather than a scheduled-service airport.
There is no road link between the island and the mainland. Visitors generally reach Santa Cruz Island by boat from mainland harbors or by small private aircraft, and then continue on foot or with arranged transport to trailheads, camping areas and coastal access points.
Travelers should plan for a remote, self-sufficient experience, as passenger facilities at the airstrip are very limited and the surrounding island is managed mainly for conservation and outdoor recreation.
