San Gabriel Valley Airport is a public general aviation airport serving El Monte, the San Gabriel Valley, and the greater Los Angeles area. Originally constructed in 1936 and owned and operated by Los Angeles County since 1969, the airport was renamed from El Monte Airport in 2014 to reflect its regional role.
Located about one mile north of El Monte and roughly twelve miles east of downtown Los Angeles, the airport supports flight training, private and business aviation, charter operations, and aerial sightseeing. It is also used for public safety and emergency services, including aerial firefighting, law enforcement support, search-and-rescue, and air ambulance operations.
The facility has a 3,995-foot asphalt runway and an FAA-operated air traffic control tower, along with hangars, tiedowns, aviation fuel, flight schools, and maintenance services.
