About San Antonio International Airport

San Antonio International Airport is the main airport serving San Antonio and the surrounding South Central Texas region. Opened in 1941 as a military airfield and converted to commercial use in 1953, it now functions as the city's primary gateway for domestic and international travel.

Located about 8 miles (13 km) north of downtown San Antonio, the airport operates two passenger terminals. Terminal A handles most airline operations and international arrivals, while Terminal B, which opened in 2010, serves American Airlines and United Airlines. A consolidated rental car facility completed in 2018 supports independent onward travel.

Ground transportation includes VIA Metropolitan Transit bus service, taxis, ride-hailing pickup zones, private transfers, and direct road access via Loop 410 and U.S. Highway 281, making it relatively easy to reach downtown, the River Walk, and nearby areas.

Passenger amenities include restaurants, cafés, shops, a United Club lounge, a USO center, free Wi-Fi, charging points, and accessibility services, supporting a practical and convenient airport experience.
