About Salzburg Airport W. A. Mozart

Salzburg Airport W. A. Mozart is the main international airport serving Salzburg and the surrounding Alpine region. Located about four kilometres from the historic city centre, it is Austria's second largest airport and an important gateway for scheduled flights to major European cities as well as charter connections to Mediterranean and Northern European holiday destinations.

The airport opened in 1926 as the Salzburg Municipal Airfield and has carried the name of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart since 1996. Passenger services operate through two terminals: Terminal 1 handles most scheduled traffic, while amadeus terminal 2 provides extra capacity mainly for winter charter flights and is also used for events at other times of the year.

Salzburg Airport offers convenient links to regional hubs including Frankfurt, Dubai, London and Istanbul, making it a practical arrival point for travellers continuing to the city, the Salzkammergut lakes and nearby ski resorts. Its compact layout keeps walking distances short and helps streamline check-in, security and baggage collection.

The airport is well connected to the city by trolleybus lines 2 and 10, which reach the centre in about 15 to 23 minutes, along with taxis, private transfers, car rental and regional buses to destinations in Salzburg province and nearby Bavaria.
