About the Event

Donauinselfest 2027 is the 44th edition of Vienna's free open-air festival, taking place from 25 to 27 June 2027 on the Donauinsel. As Europe's largest open-air festival with free admission, it turns a 4.5-kilometre stretch of the Danube Island into a festival site for three days of music, culture, sport and entertainment.

The festival has been a fixture of the Vienna summer since the first Donauinselfest in 1984, following a cultural spring festival held on the island the year before. It is organised by the SPÖ Wien with the Pro Event Team für Wien and is built around the idea of culture for everyone: entry is free, and the programme is designed to be open to all generations and backgrounds.

The 2027 edition is planned with 14 stages and 16 themed islands along the festival grounds, which run between Floridsdorfer Brücke and Reichsbrücke. Recent editions have presented around 200 acts and roughly 700 hours of programme, with music ranging from Austropop, rock and pop to electronic, hip-hop, Schlager and Wiener Lied. Artist and stage details for 2027 are announced closer to the event.

Alongside the concerts, visitors can explore action and fun areas with sport and play stations, a dedicated children's programme, activities for senior visitors, and information and service zones. Food and drink stands, water points and awareness services such as safe zones and trained teams are spread across the site.

The event regularly draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each day and has attracted around three million people over a weekend in past editions. Attendees include local families, music fans, young people and international visitors who come for a relaxed, open-air festival atmosphere in the middle of Vienna.

Because admission is free, there are no backstage or VIP tickets, and camping is not possible on the festival grounds. The site is best reached by public transport via the U1 station Donauinsel or the U6 stations Handelskai and Neue Donau, with additional tram and bus connections nearby.

The Donauinsel is a long, artificial island in the Danube that was created for flood protection and has become one of Vienna's main recreation and event areas. For Donauinselfest, a 4.5-kilometre section between Floridsdorfer Brücke and Reichsbrücke is used as the festival grounds, offering open green and waterfront spaces, walking and cycling paths, and direct access via the U1 station Donauinsel and the U6 stations Handelskai and Neue Donau.
