About Salton Sea Airport
Salton Sea Airport is a privately owned, public-use general aviation airport serving Salton City and the southeastern shore of the Salton Sea in Imperial County, California. Opened in January 1960, the field has long supported light aircraft operations in this desert region.
Located about one nautical mile southwest of central Salton City, the airport has a single gravel runway measuring approximately 5,000 feet. It operates without a control tower and is primarily used by private and general aviation pilots, including occasional ultralight activity on weekends.
The airport is easy to reach by car along California State Route 86, which runs past the Salton City area. Onward travel to local communities, the Salton Sea shoreline and nearby desert destinations is typically arranged by private vehicle or pre-booked ground transportation.
Because it is a small unattended field, passenger services are limited to basic airside infrastructure such as tie-down parking and a wind indicator; fuel, dining and other traveler amenities are found in nearby communities.
