About Salem-Willamette Valley Airport
Salem-Willamette Valley Airport, also known as McNary Field, is a public-use airport serving Salem, Oregon's state capital, and the surrounding Willamette Valley. Owned and operated by the City of Salem, it is primarily a general aviation facility and also provides a shuttle connection between Salem and Portland International Airport.
The airfield was activated in 1937, and in 1944 the Salem City Council named it McNary Field in honor of U.S. Senator Charles L. McNary of Oregon. The present terminal building dates to 1952.
Located about two miles southeast of downtown Salem near the junction of Interstate 5 and State Highway 22, the airport covers roughly 750 acres with two asphalt runways, a control tower, a small passenger terminal, general aviation aprons and a fixed-base operator.
Travelers can reach the terminal by car, taxi or Cherriots bus, while on-site rental cars, the Flight Deck Restaurant & Lounge and the B-17 Alliance Foundation Museum add convenience for visitors and aviation enthusiasts.
