About St. Paul Downtown Airport
St. Paul Downtown Airport, commonly known as Holman Field, is a general aviation reliever airport serving Saint Paul and the wider Twin Cities region. Located just across the Mississippi River from downtown Saint Paul, it is the closest airport to the Minnesota capital and a convenient gateway for private, corporate and general aviation travelers.
The airport has deep roots in Minnesota aviation history. Its Kasota limestone terminal building was completed in 1939 as a Works Progress Administration project, and Holman Field once served as the primary airport for the Twin Cities and as the headquarters base for Northwest Airlines before airline operations moved to Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport in 1960.
Today the airport is operated by the Metropolitan Airports Commission and features three runways, including a 6,491-foot primary runway, as well as two fixed-base operators, a U.S. Customs facility, flight training and a Minnesota Army National Guard aviation unit. The historic terminal building is also home to Holman's Table restaurant.
Because of its location just south of downtown Saint Paul and about 12 miles from downtown Minneapolis, the airport offers quick road access to Twin Cities business districts, government offices, event venues and surrounding communities. Travelers continue by taxi, rental car, private transfer or chauffeur service.
