About Saginaw Seaplane Base

Saginaw Seaplane Base is a privately owned, public-use seaplane base on Saginaw Bay, off Kuiu Island in Southeast Alaska. Activated in 1962, it provides a water landing area for private and charter floatplane traffic serving remote coastal areas of Petersburg Borough.

Located roughly midway between Petersburg and Sitka, the base is a small but practical access point for travelers heading to remote cabins, fishing areas, and nearby communities. It has one seaplane landing area, designated NW/SE, measuring about 10,000 by 1,000 feet, but no conventional passenger terminal.

The base has no road access, so arrivals and departures depend on floatplanes and boats. The nearest community, Kake, is approximately 16 km to the northeast, while Petersburg and Sitka are each roughly 74 km away.

Because services are limited, visitors should confirm transportation, supplies, and onward travel before arriving. Despite its small size, Saginaw Seaplane Base remains a practical gateway for floatplane access to this part of Southeast Alaska.
