Sabah Airport (SBV)

Sabah Airport is a small domestic airfield serving the village of Sabah and nearby rural communities in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea. It functions mainly as a basic regional landing ground for charter flights, mission aviation and supply deliveries rather than as a scheduled commercial hub.

Located on Bougainville Island, the airport has a single runway used primarily by small turboprop aircraft and one basic terminal building that provides sheltered waiting and processing space. Passenger facilities are minimal, with no shops, restaurants, ATMs or public Wi-Fi, so travelers should plan to be largely self-sufficient.

The airfield lies roughly 45 km from Buka Town, the regional capital, and is reached mainly by pre-arranged private vehicles or local public motor vehicles, as no fixed taxi or bus services operate at the terminal. Flight operations depend heavily on tropical weather conditions, so travelers are advised to keep schedules flexible and confirm departures directly with charter operators.

Despite its small size, Sabah Airport remains an important link for the local community, connecting Sabah and surrounding villages with Buka, Arawa and other parts of Papua New Guinea through light aircraft and charter services.
