About Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport

Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport is a public-use general aviation reliever airport owned and operated by Jefferson County. Located in Broomfield on U.S. Highway 36, it primarily serves corporate, private, charter and flight-training traffic for the Denver–Boulder corridor and the Colorado Front Range.

The airport opened in 1960 and was long known as Jefferson County Airport, or Jeffco Airport. It was renamed Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport on October 10, 2006, and its current 25,000-square-foot terminal building opened to the public on June 25, 1993.

BJC sits roughly 16 miles northwest of downtown Denver and about 10 miles from Boulder, with direct road access to U.S. Highway 36 and onward routes to Denver, Boulder, Interlocken and the Rocky Mountains. Taxis, rideshares, rental cars, private transfers and chauffeur services provide most ground transportation, since there is no direct rail service to the airport.

Passenger facilities include a main terminal, FBO lounges operated by Signature Flight Support and Sheltair, dining, conference space and general aviation support services, making BJC a practical gateway for business and leisure travelers using private or charter aircraft.
