About Rochester Airport
Rochester Airport is a general aviation airfield serving Rochester, Chatham and the wider Medway area in Kent. Opened as a municipal airport in 1933, it has long been associated with local flying and with aircraft manufacturer Short Brothers, which used the site for test flying during its early decades.
Located about 3 km south of Rochester on the A229 Maidstone Road near Chatham, the airport operates a single grass runway and caters mainly to private pilots, flying schools, flying clubs and light aircraft rather than scheduled airline traffic.
The airfield is reached by road from the A229, with the M2 and M20 nearby, and Rochester and Chatham railway stations provide onward rail connections. Taxis, private transfers and car rental offer practical links to the Medway towns and destinations across Kent.
Visitors can use the Ground Control café, watch aircraft from the viewing areas and learn about the airport's aviation heritage, making the airfield a welcoming stop for pilots and the local community.
