Río Mayo Airport (ROY) is a small public-use airport serving the town of Río Mayo in southwestern Chubut Province, in Argentine Patagonia. It is located about 1 km south of the town centre at the southern access to Río Mayo, alongside National Route 40.
The airport functions mainly as a regional airstrip for government, military, emergency and occasional regional flights rather than as a large scheduled commercial hub. Its single runway is approximately 1,500 m long, and passenger handling takes place in one compact terminal building. A refurbishment completed in 2024 restored the passenger terminal, control tower and basic services after a period of deterioration.
Road access via National Route 40 connects the airport with the town centre in only a few minutes and with larger Patagonian centres such as Comodoro Rivadavia, roughly two hours away. Transport from the airport is usually arranged in advance through private transfers, local taxis or private vehicles, reflecting the area's limited public transport.
Facilities are basic, with a small waiting area and essential services rather than shops, restaurants or lounges. For visitors travelling through this remote part of Chubut, the airport remains an important local link and an entry point to the surrounding Patagonian steppe.
