About Rimouski Airport

Rimouski Airport is the main air access point for the city of Rimouski and the Bas-Saint-Laurent region of Quebec. The facility traces its origins to 1927, when Canada's Department of National Defence began building it as a terminus for the country's first airmail route. During the following decades it developed through federal unemployment-relief programs and wartime defence needs, and from 1946 the City of Rimouski leased it from the federal government. Quebecair continued operations here until 1969, and in 2002 the airport was formally transferred to the city, which now owns and manages it.

The airport is situated northeast of central Rimouski, roughly 5 km from the downtown area, making the city centre a short road journey of about 10 to 15 minutes. It supports regional and domestic aviation, with scheduled and charter services linking Rimouski to destinations such as Quebec City, Sept-Îles and other points in eastern Quebec.

The passenger terminal is named the Aérogare Paul-Émile-Lapointe in honour of a Quebec aviation pioneer. Opened as a two-storey building of about 1,200 m², it houses a common area, passenger waiting areas and administrative offices. A single asphalt runway serves the aerodrome.

Travelers continuing to the city centre, the Gaspé Peninsula or the St. Lawrence coast can use taxis, private transfers, rental cars and road connections along Route 132. With compact facilities and its close location to downtown Rimouski, the airport provides a convenient regional gateway for eastern Quebec.
