Richard B. Russell Regional Airport (RMG)

Richard B. Russell Regional Airport is the main aviation gateway for Rome, Georgia, and the surrounding Floyd County area in northwest Georgia. The county-owned public-use airport is a general aviation facility, serving private, corporate, military and training flights rather than scheduled airline service.

The airport's history began in 1942, when Floyd County purchased land that was used by the U.S. Navy as a Naval Auxiliary Air Base. The property was returned to the county in 1945 and later named for U.S. Senator Richard B. Russell Jr.; the terminal building was named in 2004 for Admiral John H. Towers, a naval aviation pioneer born in Rome.

Located about 6 nautical miles (11 km) north of downtown Rome, the airport covers roughly 985 acres with two asphalt runways. The Admiral John H. Towers Terminal provides passenger and pilot lounges, a flight planning room, Wi-Fi and other services, while ground transportation, car rental and road links make onward travel straightforward.

With FBO services, fuel, hangar space and a central position in the region, the airport functions as a practical entry point for business and leisure travelers visiting Rome and northwest Georgia.
