About Reykjavík Domestic Airport
Reykjavík Domestic Airport is the main domestic airport serving Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland. Its origins date to World War II, when British forces began building the airfield in 1940, and it has since become the country's key hub for flights within Iceland and to Greenland.
Located about 2 km west of central Reykjavík, the airport is unusually close to the city centre compared with many capital airports. It operates two passenger terminals: a main terminal used by Air Iceland Connect for domestic and international traffic, and a smaller terminal serving Eagle Air.
The airport is connected to Reykjavík by public Strætó buses, taxis and car rental services, with bus stops and taxi ranks outside both terminals. Free parking is available, and there is no rail link at the airport.
Passenger facilities include a cafeteria, shops, lounges, car rental desks and accessibility services for passengers with reduced mobility. Its compact layout and central position make it a convenient starting point for domestic travel across Iceland.
