About Reko Diq Airport

Reko Diq Airport (REQ) is a small airfield in Chagai District, Balochistan, serving the Reko Diq copper-gold mining project in a remote desert area near the borders with Afghanistan and Iran. Its primary role is to support charter, cargo, personnel and emergency flights for the mining development rather than scheduled commercial passenger services.

The airfield operates a single asphalt runway designated 18/36, approximately 1,700 metres long, at an elevation of around 849 metres. It sits within the wider Reko Diq project area, where the airport has been developed as part of the infrastructure needed to move people, equipment and supplies into and out of the site.

Located in one of Pakistan's most remote mining regions, the airport is roughly 75 km from the regional centre of Nok Kundi and about 40 km from the N-40 highway that links Quetta with the western border area. Ground travel is challenging and is typically organised in advance, using four-wheel-drive or private vehicles on desert and gravel roads.

Facilities remain modest and functional, focusing on operational support rather than commercial passenger comfort. The airport provides a practical aviation link for mining personnel, contractors, officials and visitors involved in the Reko Diq project.
