About Raufarhöfn Airport

Raufarhöfn Airport is a small airfield serving Raufarhöfn, the northernmost village on mainland Iceland, in the country's Northeast region. The present airfield was built in the summer of 1966 and opened on 7 November that year.

The airport lies about five to six kilometres south of the village and has a single gravel runway measuring roughly 1,200 metres. It is used mainly for general aviation and has no regular scheduled commercial airline service; the nearest airports with scheduled flights are Akureyri and Þórshöfn.

Raufarhöfn itself sits on the Melrakkaslétta peninsula and is known as the northernmost settlement on Iceland's mainland. Road access connects the airfield with the village and the surrounding communities of Kópasker and Þórshöfn.

Because it is a small rural airfield, passengers should confirm travel and ground transport arrangements in advance. Facilities on site are minimal, so most services such as accommodation, fuel and food are found in Raufarhöfn village.
