Rangiroa Airport (RGI)

Rangiroa Airport serves Rangiroa, the largest atoll in French Polynesia and a key destination in the Tuamotu Archipelago. Located between the ocean and the lagoon on the Avatoru motu, the airport provides domestic connections for visitors travelling from Tahiti, Bora Bora and other islands in French Polynesia. A single paved runway and a small passenger terminal handle inter-island flights operated mainly by Air Tahiti and Air Moana.

The airport sits about 5 kilometres from the main village of Avatoru and roughly 10 kilometres from Tiputa, which is reached partly by boat. Because Rangiroa is an atoll with limited road infrastructure, many accommodations arrange airport pick-ups in advance, while taxis and car or scooter rentals are also available near the terminal.

Flights from Tahiti take around one hour, making Rangiroa a convenient base for diving, lagoon excursions and stays in family-run guesthouses. The terminal offers basic services including a taxi stand, snacks, small shops, restrooms and an airline agency, while pre-arranged transfers are recommended for reaching hotels and pensions.

As a domestic airport, Rangiroa Airport has no customs or immigration facilities, and passenger volumes are modest. Planned terminal modernisation work under the island's new airport operator is expected to improve service quality for travellers using this gateway to the Tuamotu Islands.
