About Ralph Wien Memorial Airport
Ralph Wien Memorial Airport is the main airport serving Kotzebue and the wider Northwest Arctic Borough of Alaska. Opened in 1947, the airport is named in memory of Ralph Wien, an Alaska aviation pioneer who co-founded Wien Air Alaska, and it remains the region's primary hub for passenger, air taxi and cargo flights.
Located about one mile south of central Kotzebue, the airport has two runways: a paved runway and a gravel runway. Because Kotzebue is not connected by road to the rest of Alaska, the airport is essential for travel to Anchorage, Nome and surrounding villages served by Alaska Airlines, Bering Air and Ravn Alaska.
Passengers use a single terminal building with airline check-in, TSA security screening, baggage claim and basic amenities such as a cafe, gift shop and free Wi-Fi.
