Raleigh-Durham International Airport is the primary commercial airport serving Raleigh, Durham and North Carolina's Research Triangle region. It began as Raleigh-Durham Army Air Field, with its first commercial flight landing in 1943, and has since grown into a major gateway for the area.
The airport operates two passenger terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Terminal 1 serves Southwest and Spirit along with other select carriers, while Terminal 2 handles the remaining domestic and international airlines and is the only terminal used for international arrivals.
RDU is located in Morrisville, roughly 9 miles northwest of downtown Raleigh and about 14 miles from downtown Durham, making it a convenient hub for the entire Triangle. GoTriangle buses, taxis, ride-hailing services, rental cars, private transfers and chauffeur services connect the airport to surrounding cities.
