About RAF Odiham
RAF Odiham is a Royal Air Force station located in Hampshire, England, near the village of Odiham and the town of Hook. Flying began at the site in 1925, and the airfield was opened as a permanent RAF station in 1937. Today it is best known as the home of the UK Chinook Force.
The station operates three Chinook squadrons and provides heavy-lift helicopter support for UK military operations worldwide. As a military airfield, it does not handle scheduled civilian passenger flights, and access to the operational areas is restricted.
RAF Odiham lies about 43 miles southwest of central London, close to the M3 motorway and approximately 10 miles from Basingstoke. The nearest railway station is Hook, on the South Western Railway line between London Waterloo and Basingstoke.
Because it is an active military base rather than a public airport, travellers should not expect passenger terminals, shops or public lounges. Onward travel from the surrounding area is best made by road or from Hook station to London, Basingstoke and other parts of Hampshire.
