About RAF Coningsby
RAF Coningsby is a Royal Air Force station in Lincolnshire, England, and a major home of the UK's Typhoon fast-jet force. The station opened on 4 November 1940 as a Bomber Command base and has remained in continuous military aviation use since the Second World War.
Today the station hosts front-line Typhoon units including No. 3(F) Squadron, No. 11 Squadron and the joint RAF/Qatar Emiri Air Force No. 12 Squadron, alongside operational conversion and test squadrons. It is also home to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, based here since March 1976, which operates historic aircraft such as Spitfires, Hurricanes and a Lancaster.
Located in East Lindsey, the airfield lies about 14 km southwest of Horncastle and 16 km northwest of Boston, roughly 37 km from Lincoln by road. It is reached mainly by road, with limited public transport connections to nearby towns.
As an active military station, general public access is restricted, but the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Visitor Centre allows visitors to see the historic aircraft collection. Onward travel by private transfer, taxi or car links the station with Lincoln, Horncastle, Boston and the wider Lincolnshire region.
