About RAF Brize Norton
RAF Brize Norton is a Royal Air Force station in Oxfordshire, England, and the largest RAF station in the United Kingdom. Opened in 1937 as a training base, it later became the RAF's main air transport hub and now operates as the UK's primary military airport of embarkation.
Located near Carterton, about 14 miles (23 km) west of Oxford, the station supports strategic and tactical air transport, air-to-air refuelling and the movement of service personnel, families and official travellers. Its passenger air terminal handles departures and arrivals for military and government flights.
The station is reached by road via the A40 and surrounding routes, with onward connections to Oxford, Witney, Carterton and the Cotswolds. Taxis, pre-booked private transfers and car hire are the main travel options, as there is no passenger railway station at the base.
For travellers, the terminal offers essential facilities and a controlled, security-focused process, while Oxford and the surrounding towns provide onward connections, services and accommodation.
