About Quonset State Airport
Quonset State Airport is a public-use general aviation airport on Quonset Point in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. Operated as a joint civil-military facility and managed by the Rhode Island Airport Corporation, it has no scheduled commercial airline service and mainly supports private, business and military aviation.
Built on the site of the former Naval Air Station Quonset Point, which was established in 1941 and scaled down in the early 1970s, the airport has operated as a civil field since March 1947. Today it is home to the Rhode Island Air National Guard's 143rd Airlift Wing and Army National Guard aviation units while remaining open to general aviation and air taxi traffic.
Located about 21 miles (34 km) south of downtown Providence and adjacent to Narragansett Bay, the airport offers quick road access to Providence via Route 4 and I-95 and to Newport via Route 138. It sits within Quonset Business Park, where air travel is combined with port, rail and highway connections.
The airport has a single passenger terminal, an on-site FBO operated by FlightLevel Aviation and two runways, 16/34 and 5/23. Passenger facilities include a pilot lounge, Wi-Fi, meeting space, courtesy vehicles, car rentals, parking, fuel and heated hangars, supported by an operating control tower and instrument approaches for reliable operations.
