About Quillayute Airport
Quillayute Airport is a public-use general aviation airport serving Forks and the western Olympic Peninsula in Washington. It traces its origins to the Quillayute Naval Auxiliary Air Station, commissioned during World War II in 1944, and later operated as a state airport before ownership transferred to the City of Forks in the late 1990s.
The airport sits on the coastal plain about 10 miles (16 km) west of Forks and roughly 3 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean, between the coast and the Olympic Mountains. It provides air access to Forks, La Push, the coastal areas of Olympic National Park and nearby communities, and today supports general aviation, private and charter flights, and regional emergency preparedness rather than scheduled airline service.
Its airfield has a single concrete runway, 04/22, measuring 4,211 by 100 feet, together with aircraft parking and tie-downs. The airport is unattended and has no control tower or published instrument procedures; pilots use the CTAF frequency and an on-site automated weather station.
Road access links the airport to Forks and U.S. Route 101, the main highway through the western Olympic Peninsula. Ground transportation is generally by private car, pre-arranged transfer or rental vehicle, as scheduled public transport options are limited, so travelers should arrange onward travel in advance.
