Qala-i-Naw Airport (LQN)

Qala-i-Naw Airport is a small airfield serving Qala-e-Naw, the capital of Badghis Province in northwestern Afghanistan. It handles limited civilian flights alongside military operations and provides an air connection for the town and the wider province.

The airport lies about 2 km west of the town centre, close to the Herat–Mazar-i-Sharif road. Its single concrete runway, roughly 2,000 m by 25 m, was originally a highway that was later converted for aviation use, with road traffic stopped during aircraft movements.

Facilities are basic: there is a small passenger terminal, but no refuelling service, runway lighting or full air traffic control, and operations are normally limited to daylight hours. Passengers should confirm current schedules and access requirements before travelling.

The short distance to Qala-e-Naw makes reaching the town a quick journey by taxi or private vehicle, while longer road trips can continue toward Herat and other parts of western Afghanistan.
