About Prospect Creek Airport

Prospect Creek Airport (PPC) is a small public-use airstrip serving the remote Prospect Creek area of Alaska's Interior. Located about 3 miles northeast of the settlement near the Dalton Highway, the airport supports general aviation, charter flights and access to work sites along the Trans-Alaska Pipeline corridor.

The airfield was activated in June 1971 and is publicly owned by the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities. It operates a single gravel runway, designated 1/19 and measuring about 4,968 feet by 150 feet, which is suited to smaller aircraft and remote-area flying.

Prospect Creek lies along the Dalton Highway and is known as the site of the lowest temperature ever recorded in the United States. The airport provides an air link for travelers continuing to Coldfoot, Bettles or Fairbanks; by road, Fairbanks is roughly 215 miles south and Coldfoot is about 42 miles north.

Facilities are limited, with no passenger terminal, control tower or on-site fuel service, so most travelers arrange ground transport and supplies in advance. The airport remains a useful access point for pilots and visitors exploring Alaska's northern Interior.
