Princeville Airport (HPV)

Princeville Airport is a private general aviation airfield on the North Shore of Kauai, serving the Princeville resort area, Hanalei and the surrounding communities. Opened in 1977 as a quasi-public general aviation airport, it once hosted commuter flights and remains an important access point for North Shore helicopter tours and private aircraft.

The airport lies roughly three nautical miles east of Hanalei and about 47 km north of Lihue, the island's main commercial center, along the Kuhio Highway. Its single asphalt runway, designated 05/23, is approximately 3,560 feet long, and the field sits at an elevation of about 344 feet.

After Hurricane Iwa struck Kauai in 1983, the airport helped support smaller emergency relief flights when Lihue Airport was at capacity. The State of Hawaii leased and operated the facility from 1994 until 1999, and scheduled passenger service ended in 1997.

Today, Princeville Airport primarily supports helicopter sightseeing operations, private charters and general aviation. Visitors use it as a convenient North Shore departure point for tours of the Na Pali Coast, Hanalei Bay and other Kauai landmarks, with onward travel by taxi, private transfer, shuttle or rental car.
