About Portland International Jetport
Portland International Jetport is the primary commercial airport serving Portland and the state of Maine. It connects the region to major hubs and leisure destinations across the eastern United States and is the busiest passenger airport in Maine.
The airport traces its origins to a private airfield created in the late 1920s. The City of Portland bought the field in 1936, and the Works Progress Administration built the first terminal in 1940. The present main runway was built in 1957 and lengthened in 1966, while the current terminal opened in 1968 and has been expanded since.
Located about two miles west of downtown Portland on Westbrook Street, the airport is a short drive from the Old Port and the city's business and waterfront districts. It is served by METRO Route 7 buses, taxis, ride-hailing, rental cars, private transfers and a five-story parking garage, with convenient access near Maine Turnpike Exit 46.
Inside the single terminal, ticketing, security, gates and baggage claim are kept close together, which helps make arrivals and departures straightforward.
