About Porterville Municipal Airport

Porterville Municipal Airport is a city-owned, public-use general aviation airport serving Porterville and Tulare County in California's San Joaquin Valley. Opened in September 1942 as Porterville Army Airfield, it was used by the United States Army Air Forces Fourth Air Force as a training base during World War II and later transitioned to civilian municipal use.

Located about 3 nautical miles, or roughly 6 km, southwest of central Porterville, the airport primarily supports private, corporate, charter, flight training and other general aviation activity. It features a single 5,960-foot asphalt runway and a compact passenger terminal and fixed-base operator complex.

The airport provides full FBO support, aviation fuel, aircraft parking, maintenance, flight training, aircraft rental and charter services, and it is home to the CAL FIRE and United States Forest Service Porterville Air Attack Base. Its location makes it a useful entry point for pilots and visitors heading to the Sierra Nevada foothills, Sequoia National Forest and Lake Success.

Road connections link the airport to Porterville, Visalia, Tulare and other Central Valley communities, allowing travelers to continue to city centers, foothill communities and recreation areas with relative ease.
