About Pointe Vele Airport
Pointe Vele Airport is the only airport on Futuna Island, part of the French overseas territory of Wallis and Futuna in the South Pacific. Located about 10 km east of Leava, the island's main settlement, it provides an essential air link for residents and visitors travelling to and from the territory's other main island, Wallis.
The airport handles short inter-island flights, primarily between Futuna and Hihifo Airport on Wallis Island, operated by Aircalin using small aircraft such as the DHC-6 Twin Otter. Its single asphalt runway is approximately 1,100 metres long, and operations are generally limited to daylight hours.
Because Futuna has no international flights, Pointe Vele functions as a domestic gateway within the territory. From the airport, travellers continue by road to Leava and the villages of the Alo and Sigave chiefdoms, with taxis and local transport providing onward connections across the island.
