Point Mugu Naval Air Station is a US Navy airfield within Naval Base Ventura County, located on the Pacific coast near Point Mugu in Ventura County, California. It is not a scheduled commercial airport; it supports military aviation, missile and weapons testing, and limited Space-A passenger flights for eligible travellers.
The base dates back to 1942, when the Navy established a training area along this stretch of coastline, and in 1946 it became the Naval Air Missile Test Center. Today it remains a key hub for Pacific sea test range operations and is home to aircraft such as E-2 Hawkeye and C-130 units.
The airfield sits roughly 10 km (6 miles) southeast of Oxnard, with Camarillo and Port Hueneme nearby and Los Angeles about 70 km (43 miles) to the southeast. Access is restricted to authorized personnel, while visitors can view the airfield from the Pacific Coast Highway and visit the nearby Point Mugu Missile Park.
Ground access is primarily by private car along Highway 1, with the nearest rail and bus connections in Oxnard and Camarillo. Because there is no regular public transport into the base, travellers should arrange transportation in advance.
