About Point Baker Seaplane Base

Point Baker Seaplane Base is a public-use seaplane base serving Point Baker, a small roadless community on the north end of Prince of Wales Island in Southeast Alaska. Activated in 1961 and owned by the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities, it provides floatplane access to this remote area of Sumner Strait.

The facility has a single water runway of about 4,000 by 250 feet and a float dock on the waterfront. Because Point Baker has no road connection, the seaplane base is an essential link for residents and visitors, alongside boat transport.

The seaplane base is located within the community, so arrivals are just a short walk from the waterfront. There is no commercial passenger terminal; operations are general aviation and charter flights.

Nearby communities such as Petersburg, Wrangell, and Kake can be reached by air or boat. Facilities at the seaplane base are limited, and travelers should plan around the area's basic services and weather-dependent operations.
