About Platinum Airport
Platinum Airport is a small public airport serving the village of Platinum on the Bering Sea coast in southwestern Alaska. It is the main air access point for the village and the surrounding Goodnews Bay area.
Opened in 1947, the airport is publicly owned by the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities. It operates a single gravel runway, Runway 14/32, roughly 5,000 feet long, and has no control tower; the airport is unattended.
Platinum is not connected to Alaska's road system, so air travel is the primary year-round link to the regional hub of Bethel, about 123 miles to the northeast. Scheduled regional flights connect Platinum with Bethel and other nearby villages.
Located immediately west of the village, the airport is a short walk or drive from local homes and lodgings. Facilities are basic, and travelers generally use pre-arranged transport or short local rides to reach the village.
