About Pilot Station Airport

Pilot Station Airport is a state-owned public-use airport serving Pilot Station, a small Yup'ik community on the Yukon River in western Alaska. It provides the village with its most reliable year-round air link, carrying scheduled passenger flights, air cargo and essential services.

Located about one nautical mile (2 km) southwest of the village, the airport operates a single gravel runway designated 04/22 and measuring 4,000 by 75 feet. The facility has no control tower and is generally unattended, with pilot-activated runway lighting and a small passenger waiting shelter.

Pilot Station is not connected to Alaska's road system, so air travel and river traffic are the main ways to reach the community. Regional flights connect through hubs such as Bethel and St. Mary's, where passengers can continue to Anchorage and other destinations. Within the village, travel between the airport and homes is usually by ATV, snowmachine or local truck.

Despite its small size, the airport plays a central role in daily life, supporting medevac flights, freight deliveries, mail service and passenger travel for the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region.
