Pierre Regional Airport (PIR)

Pierre Regional Airport is the primary commercial airport serving Pierre, the capital of South Dakota, and the surrounding central South Dakota region. The airport is publicly owned and operated by the City of Pierre, supporting scheduled passenger flights, air cargo, and general aviation.

Located about three miles east of downtown Pierre, the airport covers approximately 1,800 acres and includes two asphalt runways, a passenger terminal, and general aviation areas. Its history dates to a municipal airfield established on the site in the late 1930s; during World War II, the facility was used as Pierre Army Airfield for pilot training.

The airport serves as a practical gateway for state government, business travel, and visitors to the Missouri River region. Its compact single-terminal layout places check-in, security, waiting, and baggage claim areas close together, making the passenger journey straightforward and easy to navigate.
