About Peter O. Knight Airport
Peter O. Knight Airport is a general aviation airport located on Davis Islands, about three miles south of downtown Tampa, Florida. Built in the 1930s as a Works Progress Administration project, it served as Tampa's primary airport from 1935 to 1945 before scheduled airline service moved to the larger Tampa International Airport.
Today the airport focuses on private, business and charter flights, flight training and aircraft services, with its position on the tip of Davis Islands providing panoramic water views and fast access to the city centre. It is owned and operated by the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority and remains popular with general aviation users because of its proximity to downtown Tampa and Tampa Bay.
The airfield has two intersecting asphalt runways and a small terminal building that houses Atlas Aviation, the on-site fixed base operator. Services include Jet A and 100LL fuel, aircraft maintenance, flight training, aircraft sales and rental, pilot supplies, weather briefing, and tie-down and hangar storage.
Because of its central location, the airport is only a short drive from downtown Tampa, Harbour Island, the Port of Tampa Bay and Ybor City. Travellers can continue their journey by taxi, rideshare, rental car, private transfer or chauffeur service across Tampa and the surrounding Bay area.
