About Paya Lebar Air Base
Paya Lebar Air Base is a military airbase operated by the Republic of Singapore Air Force, located along Airport Road in the eastern part of Singapore. It serves as an RSAF operating base for aircraft including the C-130 Hercules and F-15SG, and functions as a joint civil/military aerodrome that can act as an alternate aerodrome for Singapore Changi Airport.
The site has a long aviation history: it was developed between 1952 and 1955 and officially opened on 20 August 1955 as Singapore's second civilian airport. After Changi Airport opened in 1981, civilian operations moved away and the former airport was converted into Paya Lebar Air Base.
The airbase features a single main runway (02/20) approximately 3,780 metres long, along with military aprons and support facilities. It is situated roughly 10 km east-northeast of central Singapore, with road access via Airport Road and surrounding expressways.
Passenger movements are handled through the AMC passenger terminal, which mainly supports military airlift and Space-A travel. Travellers can reach the city centre and eastern districts by taxi, private transfer, rental car, or public bus from outside the base.
