About Paruima Airport

Paruima Airport is a small domestic airstrip serving the Amerindian village of Paruima in the Upper Mazaruni district of Guyana's Cuyuni-Mazaruni region, also known as Region Seven. It provides an essential air link for this remote community, carrying passengers, goods and services that would otherwise depend on lengthy river journeys.

For years the landing area was a grass strip that was difficult to use in wet weather. In 2024 it was rebuilt as an all-weather concrete airstrip of about 760 metres in length, with plans for solar reflector lights to support night operations. The facility has a single runway and a compact operational area rather than a large terminal complex.

Paruima lies in Guyana's interior near the Kamarang River and close to the border region, and the village has no road connection to Georgetown. The airport is normally reached by small aircraft, typically about an hour's flight from the capital area.

The upgraded airstrip gives residents and visitors a more dependable way to travel to and from the Upper Mazaruni, with onward journeys to communities such as Kamarang made by air or river. Passenger facilities remain basic, so travellers should confirm flight and transfer arrangements in advance.
