About Park Township Airport
Park Township Airport (HLM) was a small public general aviation airport serving Holland, Michigan and the surrounding lakeshore region. Established in 1937, it was among Michigan's earliest airports and served over the decades as an airmail stop, a passenger service point and a military pilot training field during World War II.
Located roughly 3 miles (5 km) northwest of downtown Holland in Park Township, the airport long supported corporate, recreational and training flights near the Lake Michigan shoreline. In March 2020, Park Township voters rejected an operations millage, and the runway closed permanently in August 2020; the paved runway was later removed and the airfield was delisted by the Federal Aviation Administration.
The former airport property is being transformed into community parkland with walking paths, native meadows, recreation facilities and trails, while the historic hangar remains as a reminder of the site's aviation past. Today the former airfield site is reached by road from Holland and surrounding communities, reflecting its transition from an active airport to a public recreation space.
