About Parachinar Airport
Parachinar Airport (PAJ) is a small airfield serving Parachinar, the administrative centre of Kurram District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Built in the 1980s following the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the airport was developed primarily to provide landing facilities for military aircraft and later supported domestic passenger flights.
The airport lies about 7 km from central Parachinar and roughly 290 km west of Islamabad, close to Pakistan's border with Afghanistan. It has a single runway, 16/34, approximately 1,219 metres long, at an elevation of around 5,800 feet, and operates from one compact terminal building.
After an extended period of limited or suspended service, Parachinar Airport was reactivated in April 2026 following renovation and repair work by the Frontier Works Organisation and the Pakistan Airports Authority. Pakistan Army Aviation completed trial landings and takeoffs before the runway was cleared for use.
Today the airport provides a basic level of passenger facilities and a road link to Parachinar town, supporting regional connectivity and access to the wider Kurram Valley.
