About Palonegro International Airport
Palonegro International Airport is the main airport serving Bucaramanga and the wider Santander department in northeastern Colombia. Opened in August 1974, it replaced the former Gómez Niño airfield and has since become the region's principal connection point for domestic and limited international travel.
The airport sits on a mountain ridge near Lebrija, about 30 km west of central Bucaramanga, and is reached by a mountain road linking the city with the terminal. It serves the Bucaramanga metropolitan area and provides links to destinations such as Bogotá, Medellín, Cartagena and other Colombian cities, with international service to Panama City.
A renovation and expansion programme completed in 2018 modernised the single passenger terminal, which now includes separate domestic and international boarding areas across three levels, additional check-in counters and a new boarding bridge.
Passenger facilities include dining, shopping, VIP lounges and onward transport options such as taxis, buses, private transfers and car rental, making the airport a practical gateway to Bucaramanga and the surrounding Santander region.
