About Palo Alto Airport
Palo Alto Airport of Santa Clara County is a general aviation airport serving Palo Alto and the San Francisco Peninsula. It does not handle scheduled airline service, but supports private and business aviation across Silicon Valley and the southern San Francisco Bay Area.
The original Palo Alto airport was built near Stanford Stadium in the late 1920s, and the current airport site was developed between 1934 and 1936. The airport has operated as a single-runway Bay Area airfield since the 1930s, and its operation was transferred from Santa Clara County to the City of Palo Alto in 1967.
The airport covers about 102 acres and has one asphalt runway, 13/31, measuring 2,443 by 70 feet. Located at 1925 Embarcadero Road near the south end of San Francisco Bay, it is roughly three miles northwest of downtown Palo Alto and close to Stanford University, Highway 101 and other Peninsula communities.
A staffed terminal provides Wi-Fi, seating, restrooms and a waiting area for transient pilots and passengers, with free short-term vehicle parking nearby. The airport also offers hangar space and on-site repair shops, and its FAA-operated control tower supports safe operations for private and business aircraft.
