About Palmdale Regional Airport

Palmdale Regional Airport is a joint-use civil and military airfield serving the city of Palmdale and the Antelope Valley in northern Los Angeles County. Located on the USAF Plant 42 complex, the airport shares its runways and facilities with the United States Air Force and is primarily used for general aviation, private aircraft and occasional charter operations rather than regular scheduled flights.

The airport sits approximately 3 miles northeast of central Palmdale and about 60 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles, close to State Route 14. Its compact 9,000-square-foot passenger terminal was dedicated in 1971 and has two aircraft gates, and it has been renovated and reopened at several points in its history. The city of Palmdale took over management of the airport at the end of 2013 through the Palmdale Airport Authority.

Although scheduled passenger service has been intermittent, the facility remains an important regional airfield within the Antelope Valley. Travelers can reach the terminal by private vehicle, taxi or pre-arranged transfer, and the airport offers a convenient starting point for journeys toward Palmdale, Lancaster and the wider high desert area.

With a small terminal, limited on-site amenities and access controlled by the joint-use military environment, the airport is best suited to private and general aviation users. Those planning to travel from Palmdale Regional Airport should arrange transportation and services in advance.
