Padre Aldamiz International Airport is the main air gateway to Puerto Maldonado and Peru's Madre de Dios region, serving as the principal entry point for travellers heading into the Peruvian Amazon. It connects the city with domestic destinations such as Lima and Cusco and supports the growing flow of visitors to Tambopata National Reserve and the area's jungle lodges.
Opened in the 1960s, the airport has grown alongside the rise of eco-tourism in the Amazon. It has been managed under concession by Aeropuertos Andinos del Perú since 2011, and a modernised passenger terminal opened in 2016 to improve service for travellers arriving and departing from the region.
Located about 6 km west of central Puerto Maldonado, the airport is typically reached in around 15 to 20 minutes by taxi or mototaxi, while many hotels and lodges arrange private transfers for their guests.
