About Oskarshamn Airport
Oskarshamn Airport, located at Virkvarn about 12 km north of central Oskarshamn, was the small regional airport serving the city and surrounding Kalmar County in southeast Sweden. Built in 1970, it provided scheduled air connections between Oskarshamn and Stockholm, along with other regional routes during its years of operation.
The airport handled domestic services and some regional traffic for passengers travelling to and from the Småland coast. Scheduled flights linked Oskarshamn with Stockholm Arlanda and other destinations until commercial services were phased out, with the final Stockholm connection ending in April 2014 and the airport formally closing later that year.
The airfield has a single asphalt runway, designated 01/19, and a small terminal building. Following the closure of scheduled services, the site has been used mainly by private pilots, flying clubs and occasional military activity rather than regular commercial passenger traffic.
Because the airport no longer operates commercial flights, travellers visiting Oskarshamn and the surrounding coastal region generally use Kalmar Öland Airport, rail, bus, ferry or road connections. The former airport site sits along local roads with road access to central Oskarshamn.
