About Orlando Sanford International Airport
Orlando Sanford International Airport is a secondary commercial gateway serving Sanford, the Orlando metropolitan area and Central Florida. Located about 18 miles northeast of downtown Orlando, it provides an alternative to Orlando International Airport for domestic leisure travel and international charter services, with Allegiant Air operating its largest base at the airport.
Originally established as Naval Air Station Sanford in 1942, the airport served the U.S. Navy until 1969, when the City of Sanford took over the property for civilian use. It later became Orlando Sanford International Airport and has grown into a convenient point of entry for visitors heading to theme parks, beaches and cruise ports.
The airport operates a single two-level passenger terminal that was renovated and expanded between 2018 and 2021, consolidating ticketing and security screening, adding gates and improving baggage claim. The facility handles a mix of domestic and international flights through 16 boarding gates with jet bridges and a Federal Inspection Station for arriving international passengers.
Ground transportation includes rental cars, taxis, rideshare services, shuttles and private transfers, with limited public transit connections via Lynx buses and the nearby SunRail station. With a compact layout and a range of passenger facilities, the airport offers a straightforward alternative gateway for travelers visiting Central Florida.

Terminal Overview

Terminals
Orlando Sanford International Airport operates passenger services through one main terminal building spread over two levels. The facility was historically divided into Terminal A and Terminal B, which were merged into a single terminal during a renovation completed in 2021; international arrivals are processed through the Federal Inspection Station on the lower level, while domestic operations are led by Allegiant Air.
