About Olare Orok Airfield

Olare Orok Airfield is a small safari airstrip located within the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, directly north of Kenya's Maasai Mara National Reserve. It serves as the main air gateway for guests staying at camps and lodges in the conservancy, including Porini Lion Camp, Kicheche Bush Camp, Mara Plains Camp and Olare Mara Kempinski.

The airstrip sits at an elevation of about 1,728 metres and has a compacted earth and murram runway with a basic shelter and windsock rather than a conventional terminal. Scheduled domestic flights operated by Safarilink, AirKenya and Mombasa Air Safari connect it with Wilson Airport in Nairobi, typically taking 50 to 60 minutes.

By road, the conservancy is roughly 250 kilometres from Nairobi, a journey of about five to six hours, which makes flying the most practical option for many visitors. On arrival, passengers are met planeside by camp guides and continue to their accommodation by 4x4 safari vehicle.

The conservancy was formed in 2006 by Maasai landowners and limits the number of camps and vehicles, helping to keep game viewing uncrowded. Because the airstrip is located inside the conservancy, transfers often begin as game drives, with facilities such as dining, lounges and accommodation provided at the nearby camps rather than at the airstrip itself.
