About Nyac Airport

Nyac Airport is a small, privately-owned airstrip serving the Nyac area in the Bethel Census Area of southwestern Alaska. It supports the upper Tuluksak River valley, a historic gold-mining district that has relied on air access for supplies and personnel for decades. FAA records list the airstrip as activated in 1951.

Located about 2 miles (3 km) southwest of Nyac, the airport has a single gravel runway, Runway 5/23, measuring approximately 4,512 by 80 feet (1,375 by 24 metres). There is no control tower and no published instrument approach, so operations depend on suitable weather and visual flight conditions.

The airport is private use, and permission is required before landing. There is no scheduled passenger service; access to the area is mainly by air, with local air taxis linking the airstrip to regional communities such as Aniak, roughly 45 miles (70 km) north, and Bethel further down the Kuskokwim River.

With no terminal building and very limited facilities, Nyac Airport functions as a working general-aviation strip rather than a commercial gateway. Travelers should arrange landing permission, ground transport and supplies in advance.
